Strauss‛ Ariadne auf Naxos – entirely without set or costume, but with drama. During our performance, the Staatsorchester Stuttgart’s musicians are placed on the stage, the singers act it out in front of it. The audience therefore gets the opportunity to concentrate fully on the musical performance, conducted by Cornelius Meister.
First the tragedy, followed by the dance number? Or dance beforehand as amuse gueule? The commissioner demands of the artists to perform both at the same time – as time is money after all. And for the finale – fireworks! That is how Hofmannsthal and Strauss explained Ariadne auf Naxos’ mélange of myth and commedia. The pandemic now forces us to move “out and about” and we therefore bring that masterful reflection on the tragic comedies of life and love to the stage in Ludwigsburg – including the singer ensemble and the orchestra conducted by Cornelius Meister.
