Filmreihe I: Alien

We present Grünliche Dämmerung (Lukas Rehm, 2022) and Alien (Ridley Scott, 1979) including introduction.

In the not too distant future, a space freighter loaded with rare ores receives a distress signal from the planet Zeta² Reticuli on its way back to earth. Woken up by the on-board computer Mother, the crew decides to go on a rescue mission. But after a fruitless rescue mission, Third Officer Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) discovers that the signal was a warning sign and that an unknown murderous species has been brought aboard the spaceship for economic reasons. Ridley Scott's masterpiece of science fiction and body horror Alien is not only the first film of its genre with a non-male main protagonist and the beginning of a multi-part saga. It is also a great reflection on human greed, the uncompromising exploitation of all available resources beyond planet earth and the horror of encountering the other. A future of the more-than-human could have an uncanny beginning - but for the question of whether only men can always take the lead in our narratives, this film was an epochal turnaround and opened awareness for trailblazers who are in no way inferior to Wagner's Brünnhilde.
