Franziskus und die Armen

In early summer 2023, Olivier Messiaen's opera St. François d'Assise will be performed at the Staatsoper Stuttgart. Accompanying this major opera project, the Protestant and Catholic churches, in cooperation with the Stuttgart State Opera, will commemorate Francis of Assisi, one of the outstanding figures of the Middle Ages, whose impact can be felt in our reflection on the dignity of being human, on creation, on poverty and wealth, on freedom and spirituality, right up to the present day.

Professor Dr. Gerhard Trabert, general practitioner, emergency physician, social justice activist, recent non-partisan candidate for President of Germany, will present Francis of Assisi's current relevance to our approach to poverty and illness. The evening will also include music by Olivier Messiaen and an opportunity for conversation.
