4. Symphony Concert

Georg Fritzsch / Gabriela Montero

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Anton Bruckner
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Piano Concerto No. 24 in C minor KV 491
Anton Bruckner Symphony No. 6 in A major

Anton Bruckner described the Sixth Symphony as his “boldest”, which was only performed in full for the first time in Stuttgart after his death and has a special role in his oeuvre. No ethereal mist of sound, but a rhythmically accentuated movement opens the first movement. The finale, on the other hand, forgoes triumphant gesture and rather captivates with maximum concentration. It seems as if the “Symphoniker” wanted to embark on a conceptually new path after his extroverted Fifth, which would later lead him to his sublime last three symphonies. Any subjective will to express is meticulously planned and clearly structured by Bruckner. The sonata form of the Viennese classical period always served him as an organizational model - reinterpreted and expanded. On the other hand, one of the greatest composers, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, already points to the Romantic era with his Piano Concerto No. 24. The melancholic melodies, the dark shades of harmony and the depth of sensation seem to anticipate the language of Franz Schubert. The extraordinary work will be interpreted by the Venezuelan virtuoso Gabriela Montero, who, like Mozart himself, will improvise the cadenza of the concerto.
