Conductor Alondra de la Parra returns to the podium of the Staatsorchester Stuttgart and presents various works from Russia, England and her native Mexico. Guest for the first time is Albrecht Mayer, who will perform the longing, dreamy Oboe Concerto by Ralph Vaughan Williams as well as Edward Elgar's melancholic Soliloquy. With the latter, the star oboist has already enthused audiences on his album Longing for Paradise. The two works will be framed by two symphonies: one "classical" and one humorously described as "impossible". The epithet Symphonie classique of Sergei Prokofiev's First Symphony from 1917 owes its name to the parodic recourse to Joseph Haydn’s classical style. In the process Prokofiev also plays with the listeners’ expectations and provides many a surprise. His ironic view towards the symphonic genre connects Prokofiev with the Sinfonía Imposible, a new work by Arturo Márquez, which will have its German premiere in this concert.
