Johann Sebastian Bach
Actus tragicus
Six Church cantatas
Director Herbert Wernicke created a theatrical evening by combining six of J.S. Bach’s church cantatas – cantatas in which Bach’s world is transported into the present time: the set shows a cross section of a four-storeyed building where the return of the eternal same is staged: Without any chance of ever getting away from their lifes and chores, all humans seem to be trapped within their daily routines. Even death has lost its terror. Salvation and redemption can solely be found in Bach’s music: its infinite eloquence about the relativity of human existence.
