Composer in Focus 2023/24: Annesley Black
The Canadian composer Annesley Black (*1979), who has been awarded the Busoni Förderpreis for composition and the Komponisten-Förderpreis of the Ernst von Siemens Musikstiftung, among others, is writing a new composition for the Staatsorchester Stuttgart, which will be premiered in the 4th symphony concert. With this commissioned work, Annesley Black questions the traditional frontal situation of classical symphony concerts. The spatial conditions of the Beethoven Hall of the Stuttgart Liederhalle are deliberately incorporated into the concept of the composition, so that a close connection between space, sound and movement is created. Through the movement of individual musicians in the Beethoven Hall and the placement of various instrument groups in the middle of the audience, an unconventional concert and listening experience is made possible for the visitors. The composition commission is supported by the Podium Gegenwart of the German Music Council.

What is a seat cushion concert?
A seat cushion concert lasts about half an hour. 30 minutes before the start of the performance, the children are invited to draw or make crafts on the theme of the respective seat cushion concert and thus get in the mood for the performance.
