Dear audience,
from Rocky Beach to Istanbul, from Mzensk via Vienna to Paris – these are just a few of the journeys we plan to take in the coming season. An impossible itinerary – and yet we warmly invite you to join us on this journey through countries and eras, soundscapes and directorial styles. A new journey also begins with Nicholas Carter as the new General Music Director of the Staatsorchester Stuttgart. Find out more about our plans for the new season in the Concerts 26/27 overview. We look forward to the new season – and to everything that will come of it.

Dear Audience,
What a wonderful moment! It is with tremendous joy that I begin my tenure as General Music Director of the Staatsoper and the Staatsorchester Stuttgart. I look forward with great excitement to the journey we will embark on together.
An inaugural season always has something very special about it – curiosity, getting to know one another, and the development of a shared artistic vision. For the 2026/27 season, we have put together a program of which I am very proud: a broad musical spectrum that invites all to discover the variety and richness of the orchestral repertoire.
I am particularly looking forward to immersing myself in the world of Richard Strauss – a composer closely associated with this orchestra’s musical heritage – through works such as A Hero’s Life and Don Quixote. At the same time, it’s wonderful to explore new repertoire and horizons with the orchestra: for example, with the magnificent first symphonies by William Walton and Jean Sibelius, or with Unsuk Chin’s impressive Frontispiece.
I’m also proud to welcome some truly wonderful guests to the symphony concert series in the coming season. From Jonathan Nott to Caroline Widmann and Brett Dean, from Markus Stenz to Kian Soltani and Zoltan Paulich. This season brings together inspiring artists who will perform with us for you, dear audience. In short: a season full of discovery.
I look forward to this musical journey together – and welcoming you to our concerts!
Nicholas Carter General Music Director of the Staatsoper and the Staatsorchester Stuttgart
