Along an Overgrown Trail
A musical walk through the forest, where fox and hare wish each other goodnight
The forest as a metaphor for life? In the eternal cycle of growth and decay, death and rebirth, Leoš Janáček found inspiration for his beloved opera The Cunning Little Vixen, as the new production at the Staatsoper Stuttgart is titled in translation from the Czech. Throughout his life, the composer was drawn to nature, weaving the sounds and impressions he found there into his music. To follow in Janáček’s footsteps of inspiration, we set off together to discover what sensations the forest awakens in us. What do we hear, see, smell — or even taste — when we venture into the place where the vixen and the hare say goodnight? And how do the voices of the forest sound in Janáček’s music? You can experience this after our sensory woodland walk, during a special listening session at the Haus des Waldes.
