Jaewoung Lee

Jaewoung Lee, bass-baritone, born in Seoul, South Korea, graduated at the top of his class from Hanyang University, where he studied with Prof. Woo-Kyung Kim. In October 2023, he completed a master’s degree with Kammersänger Prof. Thomas Quasthoff at the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music in Berlin.
As the winner of the 1st prize at the renowned Joongang Music Competition 2022 in Korea, Jaewoung also received the 2nd prize at the Gloria Opera Competition 2022; the special prize at the Daegu International Vocal Competition 2021; the 3rd prize at the Seil Korean Songs Competition 2021; the special prize at the Cascais International Opera Competition 2025, and was a finalist at the Viotti International Music Competition 2025 and a semi-finalist at the Belvedere International Competition.
He made his opera debut in Korea as Don Giovanni in Don Giovanni and has since appeared in numerous operas and concerts. Since the 2025/26 season, he has been a member of the International Opera Studio at the Staatsoper Stuttgart. This season, his roles include: Don Basilio in Il barbiere di Siviglia, Zio Bonzo in Madama Butterfly, Second Armored Man in Die Zauberflöte, Zuniga in Carmen, Thierry / Dr. Javelinot in Dialogues des Carmélites, and Mandarino in Turandot.
