Liviu Holender
Baritone
Liviu Holender, baritone, has been a member of the Oper Frankfurt ensemble since the 2019/20 season. He was born in Vienna and received his musical training at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna and privately with Wicus Slabbert. He previously studied clarinet and piano and also completed a law degree. He gained his first stage experience as a child at the Vienna State Opera. In Frankfurt, he has appeared as Marullo (Rigoletto), Herr von Faninal (Der Rosenkavalier), Hans (Der Traumgörge), Olivier (Capriccio), Graf (Der ferne Klang) and Count von Lusignan in Aribert Reimann’s Melusine. In the 2025/26 season, he will take on the roles of Don Alfonso (Così fan tutte) and Ping (Turandot), among others. His most recent engagements include appearances at the Bregenz Festival, the Opéra national du Capitole de Toulouse, the Teatro Comunale di Bologna, La Scala in Milan, and the Salzburg Festival as Moralès in Carmen. Liviu Holender is also in demand internationally in the concert field. He has sung Brahms’ Ein deutsches Requiem under Daniele Gatti and Marek Janowski, as well as Jesus in Bach’s Matthäuspassion at the Vienna Konzerthaus with the Vienna Philharmonic under Franz Welser-Möst. As a lieder singer, he is a regular guest at international festivals. Liviu Holender will make his debut at the Staatsoper Stuttgart in 2025/26 as Sharpless in Madama Butterfly.
