The composer Mischa Tangian has written a concerto for percussion and orchestra for the Staatsorchester Stuttgart, which will premiere at the 1st symphony concert. His work titled The Order of Time focuses on the encounter of European and non-European music cultures and their instruments.Tangian combines the tradition of European classical music with elements of Middle Eastern music cultures, allowing them to enter into a dialog with each other and creating a fascinating language of sound. The concert’s soloist, Iranian percussionist Naghib Shanbeh Zadeh, will play traditional percussion instruments from the Middle East, such as tombak and riq. He will be joined by several musicians from the Babylon Orchestra Berlin, an international collective founded by Tangian that creates exciting encounters of different cultures in its concerts and scenic projects. In this symphony concert they will expand the sound spectrum of the Staatsorchester Stuttgart with various non-European instruments.
