At the end of the chamber concert series, the musicians of the State Orchestra Stuttgart dedicate themselves to the 1920s. The concert opens with French composer Francis Poulenc, who was part of the Groupe des Six in Paris. Set apart from romantic tradition, its members attempted to revolutionize music. Important impulses from jazz not only influenced the Groupe des Six, but also inspired Bohuslav Martinů and Erwin Schulhoff. The latter used a Charleston in his Divertissement, a dance which, thanks to the American dancer Josephine Baker in European dance halls at the time, had reached the height of its popularity. The silent films from Hollywood had long since conquered the European cinemas. Particularly popular were the slapstick comedies, such as Buster Keaton's The Goat from 1921, which was newly written for the musicians of the State Orchestra Stuttgart by Robert Israel. The Goat is performed live to the film in this chamber concert.
