Literature as a Refuge & Night Songs

Reflection, Creative Resilience, and Solidarity from a Black Perspective

How do we find the right words to promote unity in these challenging times? The current political developments make it difficult to see glimmers of hope on the horizon. Yet literature can be a refuge where we can think optimistically about tomorrow, meticulously dissect the present, and reflect on and learn from the past. In this conversation, we aim to explore, from a Black perspective, what it means to remain capable of speaking and acting, and how creativity and safer spaces can facilitate this.

This workshop is part of the Popup Workshop "Black German Literary Perspectives" taking place at RAMPE, the Literature House, and JOiN.

We’ll wrap up the first Popup Workshop with Night Songs, a relaxed listening session, celebrating the culmination of the Black German Literature Festival and a multi-week exhibition. It’s the perfect occasion to enjoy a specially curated selection of music: guest DJ AfroPunk and JOiN colleague Martin Mutschler will share their favorite tracks by BIPoC artists around the themes of "Forest," "Sleeplessness," "Journey," and "Identity." Let’s come together to reflect on the festival days, talk, listen, and enjoy a great time together.
