L’elisir d’amore

The Elixir of Love

by Gaetano Donizetti
Melodrama in two acts
Text by Felice Romani based on the libretto by August Eugene Scribe to the opera Le Philtre (1831) by Daniel Francois Esprit Auber
in Italian with English and German surtitles
Love throws farm labourer Nemorino completely off course. But Adina, the landowner he adores, is completely detached in matters of both, love in general and love towards Nemorino in particular. Unexpectedly, the charismatic Dulcamara appears and offers Nemorino a love potion that should help Nemorino to win Adina's affection. The miraculous potion that is in fact only a bottle of Bordeaux succeeds however in releasing Nemorino's inhibitions in an unexpected way... Anika Rutkovsky tells the tale of rediscovering magic and fantasy in a disenchanted world.
