The Fairy Queen

Almost a hundred years after Shakespeare finished his A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Henry Purcell composed his adaptation of the bard’s drama as a so-called semi-opera or »masque«: a combination of opera and drama. The composition therefore poses an ideal opportunity for the Staatstheater Stuttgart to turn towards the »Orpheus britannicus« Purcell with a co-production of Stuttgart Opera and Stuttgart Schauspiel. Together – actors, singers, Staatsopernchor and Staatsorchester Stuttgart will create a theatrical evening, where the genres’ usual definitions start to float.
