The survival of the Holy Grail’s community is threatened by King Amfortas‘ wound which he received by the magician Klingsor. The only hope that the men have left now is the arrival of a so-called »innocent fool«, who has to become »knowledgeable by empathy«. Parsifal is the chosen one, but is unaware of his appointment as the redeemer of their plight. The seeress Kundry takes it upon her to show him his destiny.

Richard Wagner‘s »Bühnenweihfestspiel« (Consecrated Stage Festival) unfolds its »Good Friday magic« in archaic simplicity coupled with bold harmony bordering on elements of atonal music.

In the Metropol theatre we will be showing the documentary film Die Singende Stadt about the creation of the Bieito production and the short film Grünliche Dämmerung about Wagner's stay in Stuttgart in 1864.

As in most of Richard Wagner's music dramas, redemption also plays a central role in Parsifal. The proximity to religion is therefore obvious. Together with station s, we look at Wagner's work from the perspectives of dramaturgy and music, with views and impulses from theology and spirituality.

The readings that Richard Wagner organized while working on his works are legendary. Wagner's Saxon compatriot Daniela Victoria Kiesewetter, assistant director and evening director, will try to get closer to the true Wagner sound - some dialects are already music.
