Following the successful competition for the solo part of Antonín Dvořák's Violin Concerto in the 21/22 season, the Staatsorchester Stuttgart is once again awarding the solo engagement to a young up-and-coming musician. 21-year-old clarinetist Lewin Kneisel won this competition. The Hungarian conductor Gábor Káli, winner of the Young Conductors Award of the Salzburg Festival, will conduct the concert. The concert will open with Franz Schubert's overture to his melodrama Die Zauberharfe (The Magic Harp), composed in 1820 for the Theater an der Wien. One hundred years after Franz Schubert, Erich Wolfgang Korngold attracted the attention of the Viennese society. The former child prodigy was one of the most frequently performed opera composers in the 1920s. Even before the outbreak of the Second World War, the Austrian-Jewish composer emigrated to the USA, where he was able to establish himself as a composer of film music in Hollywood and had a decisive influence on the genre. This concert features his only symphony, the 1952 Symphony in F-sharp, in which he used some themes from his own film scores.
