10 Tage Freischwimmen
For the 20th anniversary of the production platform, the FREISCHWIMMEN festival meets 6 TAGE FREI, the festival of Baden-Württemberg's independent scene. They combine to form a unique festival double with 10 instead of 6 days full of theater, performance, dance and music from Baden-Württemberg, Germany, Austria and Switzerland, plus a "sparkling" urban space project, an academy of aging, parties, talks and a big anniversary gala.
"Young talent" meets "all stars", local meets international - 10 Tage Freischwimmen is a brilliant spring festival that celebrates the contemporary performing arts and asks in very different ways: How can we age together both wildly and gracefully on a planet whose lifespan is becoming increasingly uncertain?
Because one thing is for certain: we'll never be that young again.
The JOiN is involved as a partner venue.

Performances on the JOiN stage
28.04. - Death Valley Junction
by Lulu Obermayer (Munich)
Upon discovering an abandoned theatre in the small settlement of Death Valley Junction, Marta Becket, a broadway dancer, choreographer and visual artist, changed her life completely, left her “conventional career” as a touring artist and moved to the desert to open up the Amargosa Opera House, where she lived and worked until her death in 2017.
In Death Valley Junction, Lulu Obermayer celebrates Marta Becket's legacy as an example of radical artistic practice and sheds light on endurance, longevity and sustainability in the performing arts. By interweaving the biography of Marta Becket with her own the performance wonders how against all odds art and life intertwine.

03.05. - Das Innere Beben
by Cia. Nadine Gerspacher (Freiburg)
Inspired by the widows' balconies (balcones de viudas) in the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires/Argentina, the Freiburg dancer and choreographer Nadine Gerspacher places her new piece "Das innere Beben" in a protected space, a house. The guardian of this widow's house is "Madame". She watches over the refuge of freedom and the radical openness lived in it. With her speech, she turns the audience into confidants and urges sympathy and respect.
In her distinctive style, Cia. Nadine Gerspacher stages a dance theater characterized by powerful dance and acrobatic elements, which celebrates the liberation of feelings with tragic-comic elements and sets a counterpoint to social repression.
