Sam Harris

Sam Harris is a British tenor, currently in his second year as a member of the Opernstudio in the Staatsoper Stuttgart. Born in Edinburgh, he began his musical career as a boy chorister at Winchester Cathedral. He studied at the Royal College of Music under Peter Savidge and Ben Johnson, singing numerous leading roles during his time there, including Camille de Rosillon (The Merry Widow), Il Principe (La Bella Dormente nel Bosco), and Pluto (Orpheus in the Underworld).

During his first season in Stuttgart, Sam notably made his debut as Cassio in the première of Silvia Costa’s new production of Otello. He also premièred a brand new one-man show - Shawn Chang’s Mlarben-Plak!, in collaboration with director Lara Yilmaz, as well as roles in Il Trovatore, Salome, Die Zauberflöte, Parsifal, and The Fairy-Queen.

Other highlights on the operatic stage include cover of Eduardo in Un Giorno Di Regno, Garsington Opera; Fenton in Sir John in Love for British Youth Opera; Sellem in The Rake’s Progress at the Verbier Festival, and Ferrando in Così fan tutte for Opera in Oborn. Sam is also a prolific concert performer, with credits including the London Symphony Orchestra and King’s College, London.

He was a finalist in the 2023 Kathleen Ferrier awards and a semifinalist in the 2025 Hans Gabor Belvedere competition.
